This is a wonderful space located behind the similarly named store on Smith St, Fitzroy. I often book this space when I need a creative getaway and having worked on part of this chess project here, the KEOMA staff and shop dog Bronson have become family.
Iconic Lego Chess Set #40174
This was one of my first attempts at making a chess set. LEGO famous for its themed chess sets finally released their iconic portable set.
African Namji Beaded Dolls
The Namji tribe of Cameroon is famous for their wooden dolls hand carved with geometric features and adorned with multicoloured beaded necklaces, cowrie shells, coins, metal strips, fiber and leather.

I would consider this my Chess Bible. Beautifully illustrated with more than 200 paintings, prints, and photographs, many of them never before published, and 72 pages in full color.
Analogue Chess Timers
Chess clocks are a great way to add some excitement and tempo to a chess game. Although digital clocks are now more common, I love the craftsmanship of the older Soviet and German engineered analogue predecessors. They have a simple, classic appeal, sturdy construction, and rich history in play making numerous TV and Cinema. Enveloping the game in a characteristic “tick tick tick tick”; as the dual clocks take turns counting down to the drop of the flag! Announcing the end to another game.
I hope to continue sparking curiosity around the game and sharing unique experiences that highlight how the beauty of the game lies not only in its design and function but in what it offers community.
It brings with it a universal language, governed by a logic that can best be appreciated and understood in practice. It does not deceive nor discriminate.
But how can we encourage another to pick up a game that has built a reputation for being suited to the most rigorous of minds? What would it mean to recontextualize this language? To evolve it, once more, for the sake of community?
